Free domestic abuse training to hair and beauty professionals in Bolton
Hair and beauty professionals are being provided with free training to spot signs of domestic abuse.
The sessions, being virtually run by Fortalice, will help professionals to understand the different types of abuse, open a difficult conversation and signpost to support services locally.
Hair and beauty professionals are in a unique position to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse in their clients. Because of the intimate and nurturing nature of the relationship between hair and beauty professionals and their clients, professionals can often spot signs of abuse that others may never identify.
For many, hairdressers, barbers and beauty therapists provide a safe environment where a client is at ease with a person they trust. Disclosing personal details to professionals who are already skilled and experienced listeners is common within your profession and provides an ideal environment for many victims suffering from abuse to confide and be signposted for further support.
The Cut It Out campaign first launched in Norfolk after Kerri McAuley was killed by her abusive partner. A few weeks before she died in 2017, Kerri had confided in her hairdresser that she thought her ex-partner was going to kill her. A review into her death found there was a lack of awareness of where people can go for information and support.
There are 3 two hour sessions to choose from. Please click on the corresponding link to the session of your choice. This will take you to Eventbrite where you can book your place.
