Support For High Risk Victims

Our Independent Domestic Violence Advisor’s (IDVAs) provide frontline services to victims of domestic abuse, supporting those at highest risk and advocating on their behalf.

We currently have four IDVAs and one ISVA on our specialist team.

The aim of an IDVA is to keep the victim and any immediate family safe, and reduce the risk of further abuse by providing short to medium term crisis intervention.

How we can help:

Detailed advice, safety planning guidance and risk assessments

Safeguarding children including child protection, child contact arrangements and referrals to specialist children’s workers

Support to find safe and secure alternative accommodation

Advice on legal/civil orders, legal documentation, support to arrange special measures

Explaining what to expect if your case goes to court

Accompanying you to police, legal and health appointments, and court appearances

Improving the security of your home so you can live safely

Referrals to specialist support services including benefits, counselling, drug and alcohol support, sexual health and mental health services

We usually work with you for up to 12 weeks, however if you feel you need additional support we can refer you to other services. This happens only when we are happy that the risk to you and your family is reduced.

How can I access the IDVA service?

If you have been identified as a high risk victim of Domestic Abuse through the MARAC process, an IDVA will contact you within 48 hours.
