Positive steps to recovery
We offer three key recovery programmes to women who have experienced domestic abuse:
Adult counselling is also available. For more information, please see the Counselling page.
The Freedom Programme
The Freedom programme is a tailored group recovery programme accessible in several different languages. It’s delivered over 10 weeks, with daytime and evening sessions available. There’s no charge for attending.
Who is it for?
The programme is open to any woman who wants to learn more about themselves and domestic abuse within a supportive group setting.
What’s it about?
The programme is designed to help you understand the different types of domestic abuse and the beliefs and behaviours of perpetrators. We also explore how children can be affected by being exposed to abuse and importantly, how your lives can improve when you are free from abuse.
As a group we explore the warning signs of domestic abuse and discuss subjects such as control, fear, isolation and how to manage your finances. You’ll learn tools and techniques to help you start thinking more positively and improve your own ability to process difficult situations and thoughts. We also introduce local resources where you can go to find support within your local community. By the end of the programme you’ll feel more confident and assertive, understand what healthy relationships look like and be able to proactively move on with your life.
Join the programme
The Freedom programme is structured so that each session stands alone and you can join in at any time. It’s currently running remotely. You can refer yourself or ask a professional to do this for you. Please contact us to find out more.
Next steps
The Next Steps programme is an in-person 8-week group therapy programme that follows on from the Freedom Programme and Recovery Toolkit. It’s designed to help you rediscover your own identity and give you the skills to move forward and live an independent life, free from domestic abuse.
Who is it for?
The programme is open to women who have completed both the Freedom programme and Recovery Toolkit.
What’s it about?
The programme teaches you knowledge, skills and strategies to help you manage future issues and crises independently. We work together, growing and developing as a group. Skills training covers assertiveness, positive thinking and self-esteem. You’ll consider distorted thinking and learn useful relaxation techniques to help improve your outlook. By the end of the programme you’ll feel more confident and creative in your approach to life.
