Providing Frontline ServicesRefugeTrainingSupport

For everyone affected by domestic abuse and violence

Fortalice are a Bolton based charity providing frontline services for people who are, or have been, affected by domestic abuse and violence.

Our support includes refuge accommodation, local community services, education and accredited training for professionals.

In our refuges we offer wraparound support to the women and children who stay with us. In the community, we provide individual and group work for adults and young people, healthy relationships courses in schools and an IDVA and ISVA service. Our team work with Bolton GP’s to raise awareness of domestic violence and encourage referrals.

While a busy childrens hub reflects the ongoing need in our community, it also means more young people are finding their way to the dedicated support they deserve an impact truly reflected in the amazing feedback we’ve received from our families.

The hub provides a safe space where children can process trauma, build coping strategies, and understand that abuse is never their fault helping them heal and smile again.

On Thursday, 9th July, our Chief executive, Gill, delivered a talk at the Liverpool Domestic Abuse Conference 2026, focusing on the critical need for early domestic abuse education for children and young people. We were delighted to be invited to contribute to such a vital event.

Speaking to an audience of 100 delegates across police, legal, healthcare, education and third-sector organisations, Gill shared insights into our school-based programmes and the work we undertake with children and young people of all ages.

On July 4th, 30 brave supporters abseiled down Peel Tower to raise funds and awareness for Fortalice.

Battling the weather, they faced the descent head on whilst their families and friends cheered them on. Thanks to their incredible efforts, the challenge raised £4,030, which will go directly towards supporting victims of domestic abuse.

A huge thank you to the team at Essity, who not only sponsored the event but also took on the abseil themselves!

It was a privilege to meet the other charities and to hear about the wonderful work that is taking place in Bolton. We are so grateful for the much needed funds to support victims and their families.
